Clerical / Administrative Support

Duties:  Assist in preparing mailings, the church bulletin, bulletin inserts, worship guides, catechetical resources and/or computer work, such as data entry, transcribing notes, layout and design

Time:  varies with job – some one-time projects, most recurring

Special Skills:  Computer skills needed for some jobs, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, Outlook, or Access helpful.

Sacristans

SACRISTANS
(families or individuals)

Duties:  Prepare for Mass by setting out vessels, bread and wine, lighting altar candles, etc.

Time:  One Mass every 3 weeks (arrive 15 minutes prior to Mass); plus initial training session

Special Skills:  A caring eye for detail; a desire to help “behind the scenes”

Greeters

(teen or adult)

Duties:  Welcome parishioners with a warm smile and a greeting; hand out worship guides and children’s leaflets; pay special attention to visitors

Time:  One Mass every 3 weeks (arrive 30 minutes early); plus initial training and an annual formation session

Special Skills:  Enjoy working with children; experience helpful

Building and Grounds Committee

Duties:  Advise pastor and assist in planning and managing maintenance and improvements of building and grounds

Time:  Bi-monthly committee meetings; 2 shape-up days/1 shape-up evening per year

Special Skills:  No training necessary; architects, engineer, any building trade (carpenter, plumber, electrician, painter, etc) helpful

Computer and Webpage Team

Duties:  Advise pastor on utilization of digital technology to support  parish office functions and services to parishioners; develop and maintain a web page for our parish

Time:  Variable and negotiable; may work from home; availability for occasional meetings at parish would be helpful

Special Skills:  Creative vision of how to maximize us of existing and new digital technology in furtherance of parish mission; professional capacity helpful but not necessary

Gabriel Project

Duties:  Assist women in crisis pregnancies through various types of support – prayer, transportation, clothing and baby products, opportunity to work with Brithright of Prince Frederick to befriend a woman in need

Time:  Varies according to assignment and need; periodic orientation sessions; written materials also available

Special Skills:  Ability to show unconditional love, set boundaries; parenting skills welcome (not necessary); good listening skills helpful; willingness to show respect for life by combining special power of prayer with commitment to service.

Legislative Network

Duties:  Send letters, faxes, e-mails and/or telephone calls to legislators on important issues

Time:  12 hours per year and annual President’s day trip to Annapolis

Special Skills:  Training available annually through the Archdiocese; written materials also available; anyone with a desire to advocate for people who have no voice in the political system is welcome.

Sacrificial Giving Committee

Duties:  Review information (financial statements and program descriptions) from organizations asking for financial assistance

Time:  Meets 90 minutes monthly; 2 hours reading information at home monthly

Special Skills:  On-the-job training provided; interest in being good steward of St. Francis de Sales poor box fund

Newcomers / Outreach

Duties:  Assist newcomers to St. Francis de Sales, or make follow-up phone calls to welcome newly registered parishioners.  To follow up on parishioners who may have fallen away.

Time:  2 hours per month for Sunday sessions; or 1-2 hours per month for phone calls

Special Skills:  Primarily a willingness and dedication to reach out to welcome and encourage new people, whether in person or by phone

Special Events Committee

Duties:  Organize social events that promote community within the parish such as annual spaghetti dinner

Time:  Variable

Special Skills:   Planning, organizing, having fun
